CHARACTER NAME: Link Larkin
SERIES: Hairspray
CANON POINT: After he meets Tracy in her detention and invites her to the dance.
APPEARANCE: Fantabulous
PERSONALITY:Along the course the movie/musical, Link goes from a mindless follower to... less of a follower. A follower who at least has a spine and can say "no" if he needs to. It is a significant growth and can be noted throughout the course of the storyline giving a much deeper look into exactly how he thinks.
There are only three things that seem to cross Link's mind: his looks, his reputation, and his future. When given the chance, Link will be checking himself out in the mirror and/or fixing his hair. Coming from a clique where the kids pride themselves on looking a certain way (attractive and white), there's no questioning why Link is so focused on his appearance. He knows he looks good and needs to make sure everyone else knows this too. Over everything, he needs to stay cool. He cannot allow himself to be dropped off the radar, so whatever seems to be the new trend, he'll follow it. It keeps him current and it keeps him popular, even if it's straddling the line of morality, as long as people remember him. Link really cares what other people think of him. If he's put in a position to choose between what's right and popularity, being the cool kid wins hands down.
Finally, it all comes down to his future. On top of looking good and being popular, he needs to have a great future. He needs to be famous. He'll give up anything if it might ruin his chances of making something of himself. When Tracy asked him to stand up for civil rights, Link backed down because he didn't want to throw away a chance at performing for Hollywood agents. Eventually, he realized love was more important to him, but it didn't end up costing him anything in the end!
ABILITIES: What kind of abilities does someone have in a musical? They can sing and dance. Link is obviously a good singer and dancer since he is on a show dedicated to singing and dancing. Also, if being charming and getting all the ladies is a skill, he has that too.
POSSESSIONS: He has nothing except the clothes on his back.
>PERSONA
MAJOR ARCANA:
The Lovers; While this card is usually depicted for romance, it can also be used to represent one becoming clearer about their values. It is meant for the reader to think about the choices they are making. This is perfect for Link because it depicts the growth he went through in the movie. He was faced with a major life choice and needed to make a decision based on his beliefs, his opinion of right and wrong.
The Sun; This card represents success and radiance. People will follow you because you see the bright side. This arcana would represent Link's kind heart and ability to see people for the good in them, rather than their outside appearance.
Wheel of Fortune; This card represents a turning point or cycles of life. Good times and bad. It suggests there are factors influencing situations that may be outside of your control. For Link, this represents his interactions with the Council. He was always influenced by their actions and reactions, and this caused him to live his life the way it did.
SHADOW: Let's start outward and bring ourselves in. His dungeon is an exact replica of the W-KZT Studio. The cameras, the lights, the colors, the audience seating, and in the center of it all, the main stage. It's very retro, very reminiscent of the early 60s. The lights focus on the stage and what appears to be Link would be standing there, however he's dressed formally. He has a point to make about himself and the real Link. The only reason they were able to make it in show business is because Link pretty much sold himself to Amber. As long as he stays on her good side, he won't be fired. He'll stay popular and useful. Link is just a follower and can't do anything for himself, no matter how independent he thinks he is. Just try to deny this, and his Shadow goes berserk, morphing into a ridiculous, massive marionette. It's strings seem to go off in numerous directions and are being held by dark figures that seem to take the form of students.
It has little to no physical attacks. Every once in a while it will use a Ice attack in the form of Bufula or Mabufu, but they are not particularly strong unless you are weak to Ice. It's major skills are Charm ailments or Recovery skills, which it uses on itself more often than not. The trick to this battle is to discover which figure is the one controlling the puppet. While they are all holding strings, only one of them is the "puppeteer". However, for every one that is defeated, two appear in its place. Once the real one is defeated, the Shadow will become instantly weak. All in all, not a hard battle, just an annoying one.

FIRST PERSON ACTION, JOURNAL, OR PHONE SAMPLE: Two separate threads here.
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:Link sat straight up in his seat. Did he fall asleep in class? Oh, great. He was late for rehearsal, he would never hear the end of it. They would have to cancel the show for the day, and he would have to work double time to make up for it. Link rubbed his eyes as he stood from his seat, only to stumble when the ground beneath him moved. What was going on?
Blinking himself awake, he finally looked at his surroundings. A train. He was on a train. How did that happen? Slowly, he sat back down, a look of confusion across his face. This was a trick. Maybe some of the other council members thought it'd be funny to get him in trouble. Ha, ha, guys. Nice one. Now how was he supposed to get back home?
No. It was worse. Maybe, just maybe, it finally happened. He knew there were enough girls in town who were in love with him, but he never thought any of them could be capable of kidnapping. But how else could he end up on a train and not remember how it happened? It was just then that he noticed something out of the corner of his eye.
There was a person sitting next to him.
They were asleep, thankfully, but that meant Link couldn't sneak by without waking them. They had to be his kidnapper. He just needed to be calm. He could probably be let go on good behavior, hopefully before they started taking locks of his hair or placing him in compromising situation. He was really good at getting out of things he didn't want to do. This couldn't be any different. And, his captor was female, from the looks of it. He just had to turn on the charm, and she'd be putty in his hands.
With a sigh, he sank back into his seat, turning his gaze toward the window. It was too foggy to make anything out, not even a tree or a building, and for the first time since he woke up- actually, for the first time since he could remember-, Link felt.. calm. He didn't know where he was going, but he didn't really care anymore. There were no deadlines to meet, no people to please. He might actually be able to enjoy himself for once?
This was such a weird feeling.
